POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State football program was recognized by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association as one of the FCS schools that improved their APR score the most from the previous year.
The football program recorded a score of 903 for the 2010-11 school year, up from the 883 in the 2009-10 year. Overall 14 FCS school were honored with the Most Improved accolade. The APR award recognizes one institution at each of the 14 FCS conferences for this award.
There were also 14 awards given to a school in each conference that had the top APR score.
“Our Association is pleased to present these awards to spotlight the true mission of all FCS programs, embracing the academic progress of their student-athletes, who will become leaders in their everyday lives outside of the field,” said FCS ADA President Marilyn McNeil, vice-president/director of athletics at Monmouth University. “We are happy to continue to recognize the FCS institutions and their football programs for continuing to reach or maintain exemplary APR scores.”
Because of the football program's continued improvement, they are no longer under any APR penalties. The program is now eligible for the postseason, has its full allotment of scholarships back along with practice time.
At the end of the 2011-12 school year, which the numbers won't be publicly reported by the NCAA until next spring, if the football program has a two-year average of 930 for the most recent years or a four-year average of 900 they will again be penalty free.
While data has yet to be finalized for the 2011-12 school year, the two-year and four-year average are expected to exceed the requirement set by the NCAA.
If the football program has a four-year score of 910 or a two most recent have average of 940 the following year for data submitted in the fall of 2013 the Bengals will continue to be penalty free.
The final phase for the transition to reach the bench mark of 930 takes place for data submitted in the fall of 2014. If the Bengals have a four-year score of 920 or a two-most year APR average of 940 the Bengals will again not receive any penalties.
When data is submitted by the fall of 2015 for the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic year's, all programs will be expected to be at a four-year average of 930.
