POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State football coach
Mike Kramer has announced the addition of
Sheldon Cross to his coaching staff as the outside wide receivers coach. Kramer has also announced that
Roger Cooper and
Spencer Toone will serve as Co-Defensive Coordinators this season.
“Our defense needs improved leadership from the top down,” Kramer said. “Spencer and Roger have both proven their capabilities in previous positions as coaches and players.”
On Cross joining the Bengal coaching staff, Kramer said, “I have known Sheldon since 2010 and his experience and expertise will be a great fit for what we are doing offensively here at Idaho State.”
Cross comes to Idaho State after spending the 2012 season as the H-Backs and tight ends coach at Illinois State. Prior to Illinois State, Cross was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at New Mexico Highlands in 2011.While at New Mexico-Highlands, cross reinvigorated the Cowboy offense as they went from averaging 10 points a game in 2010 to 46 points per game through the first four games before injuries to the team's quarterback took a toll on the offense. New Mexico-Highlands averaged 29 first-downs during the season which led the country in that category.
Cross spent the 2010 season as an offensive graduate assistant at Washington State. Cross was the head football coach at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Wash and the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Iowa Wesleyan in 2005. In 2004 he was the assistant quarterbacks coach at his alma mater, Peru State.
Cross played quarterback at Iowa Wesleyan and set the Mid-State Conference record for most attempts and completions in a game. He played professionally for the Dresden Monarchs in Germany and the Graz Giants in Austria.
