ICCU Dome

ICCU DOME

Opened in 1970 and originally named the ASISU Minidome — named after the Associated Students of Idaho State University, who funded construction — this indoor facility replaced the outdoor "Spud Bowl" as the Bengals' home football stadium. The venue was renamed Holt Arena in 1988 to honor Milton W. "Dubby" Holt (1914–2007), ISU's athletic director from 1967 to 1989. As assistant athletic director, Holt conceived the indoor arena in 1966 and it was designed by architect Cedric M. Allen. Although a controversial design proposal for the time, ISU students voted to appropriate not more than $2.8 million to the project two years later.e arena was built entirely with these voluntary student funds. With over 56% in favor, ISU students approved a $12 increase in semester fees to fund the stadium in early 1968.

The ICCU Dome is the oldest enclosed stadium on a college campus in the United States and the second-oldest overall. Only the Astrodome in Houston, completed in 1965, predates it. Since the Astrodome's closure in 2006, the ICCU Dome has been the oldest enclosed stadium in use. The football field is aligned east-west and the arched roof runs length-wise; maximum height is above midfield and decreases toward the endzones. In addition to football games, the ICCU Dome is home to the ISU indoor track and field team and also hosts high school football games, the famous Simplot Games high school indoor track meet, and state wrestling tournaments amongst other community events.

In the fall of 2023, the venue concluded a nearly two-year long renovation project inside totaling nearly 20 million dollars. The project, largely thanks to the generosity of Idaho Central Credit Union, included a number of enhancements across the facility including: new artificial turf, new seating throughout the entire venue that complies with ADA standards, premium seating within the ICCU President's Deck, a student-athlete meeting room and lounge, translucent panels above the ICCU President's Deck, and the addition of a white liner on the inside of the repaired roof. In advance of the 2024 fall season, a state-of-the-art LED videoboard will also be added to the west endzone. These critical improvements help raise the profile of the University, boost recruitment, and enhance the game-day experience.

The venue was officially renamed as the ICCU Dome on January 9, 2024, following an announcement by Idaho State University, in conjunction with Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU), and approved by the Idaho State Board of Education.
