Gordon was born and raised in Scotland, and like a lot of boys, he dreamed of being a professional soccer player and had several tryouts with two local clubs. After it became apparent that the professional soccer route was not going to materialize, he decided to attend university at the Scottish Centre for Physical Education and then moved to California to pursue his master’s degree. In 1995, Gordon completed his M.Sc. in Education at Sonoma State University. During this time, he was hired to start a news women’s soccer program at North Dakota State University and became its first Head Coach. After three successful seasons at NDSU, Gordon was approached by the Athletic Director, Irv Cross, to begin the new women’s soccer program at Idaho State. Gordon coached the ISU women’s soccer team for six seasons. His achievements set the foundation and expectation for the future of the women’s soccer program. Henderson is a standout coach for his accolades, character, and dedication to the soccer program. He had great pride and passion for the game and for ISU. Henderson created an atmosphere of “team” where he formed a family-like, unbreakable bond. In 2019, he was tasked by the Board of Directors to oversee a merger between the Ohio South and Ohio North Youth Soccer Associations. This was formally completed on January 1, 2021, and Gordon was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the new organization, the Ohio Soccer Association, which consists of approximately 80,000 players, 12,000 coaches, and lover 50,000 volunteers.

- Had 37 all-conference players over the course of his career in Pocatello
- Won three straight Big Sky Conference titles, 2001, 2002, 2003
- 2003 team earned the program’s first and only NCAA tournament win over No. 14 Utah. The Bengals won 5-4 on penalty kicks
