ISU controlled play throughout the first half, outshooting the Eagles 8-2. Eastern Washington posted six shots to ISU's two in the second half, but neither team could put one in the back of the net in regulation. ISU's Shannon Boyle earned her fifth shutout of the season with three saves. Melton took the loss, but made four saves for EWU.
"It was your typical Big Sky game," ISU Head Coach Gordon Henderson said. "We are obviously very pleased with the win. Happy with the split on the road against two very tough teams. I was pleased with the way we played. Thought our possession game was good. It was a very tight game and a very well-played game by both sides."
The Bengals improve to 7-6-1 overall with the win and 1-1 in Big Sky Conference play. Eastern Washington falls to 3-7, 1-1. ISU will return home for the first time since September 8, when they host Portland State on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Davis Field.
