Gilmore Leads ISU Volleyball Past Northern Arizona in Four Games

Pocatello, ID---Four Bengals had 12 or more kills to help Idaho State break a three-match losing streak as the Bengals defeated Northern Arizona 30-22, 27-30, 30-26, 30-27, in Big Sky Conference women's volleyball action Friday night at Reed Gymnasium.

Kylie Gilmore, Ali Gorny, Melanie Tucker and Hannah Jentzsch all had at least 12 kills for the Bengals in the win. Gilmore topped 20 kills for the second time this year with against the Lumberjacks. Gorny had her sixth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 27 assists. She just missed a triple-double, posting seven digs. Melanie Tucker had her best match in some time with 13 kills and 15 digs. Jentzsch had 12 kills and two aces.

After splitting the first two games the Bengals came out fired up in the pivotal game three. With the score tied at 2-2, Jentzsch came up to serve and smacked two aces on the way to 10 straight Bengal points. But the Lumberjacks didn't fade away. They battled back and eventually took a 24-23 lead. ISU regained the lead at 25-24. Two kills by Gilmore sealed the win in game three at 30-26.

The Bengals started strong in game four taking the early lead before NAU rallied. The Bengals led 25-21 before the Lumberjacks scored the next four points to tie things at 25. But two kills by Kamie Olsen, including the deciding one on match point, lifted ISU to the win.

The win was the Bengals first over Northern Arizona in eight meetings and avenges a loss earlier this season in Flagstaff, AZ. With the win ISU improves to 8-13 overall and 2-6 in Big Sky play. Northern Arizona falls to 8-12, 4-4. The Bengals will take on Sacramento State Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Reed Gymnasium.
