Pocatello, ID---Ali Gorny recorded her first career triple-double, but it wasn't enough as the Idaho State Bengals were defeated by the Montana State Bobcats, 30-22, 30-23, 35-33, in Big Sky Conference Volleyball action Friday night at Reed Gymnasium.
Gorny, a sophomore from Littlerock, CA, had 12 kills, 18 assists and 14 digs to post the triple-double, the first for any Bengal this season. Freshman Felice Yocopis continued her improvement as she had a career high 20 digs. Heather Kinnison, making her career start of the season, had seven kills and five blocks. Amanda Meixel also had her fourth double-double of the season with 26 assists and 12 digs.
Nikki Donald led a balanced Montana State attack with 10 kills and 14 digs. As a team the Bobcats had 12 blocks with seven players recording at least one block.
Montana State took games one and two with late runs, 30-22 and 30-23. But game three was a different story. After MSU took a big early lead the Bengals clawed their way back in and tied the game at 22-22. The teams traded the lead several times before the Bobcats took a two-point lead at 29-27 and had match point. But Gorny picked up one of her many big kills to keep the Bengals alive. After fighting off four more match points the Bengals finally fell on a service to close out the match.
Idaho State drops to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in Big Sky play with the loss. Montana State improves to 12-6, 2-1. The Bengals will host the University of Montana Saturday at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym.
