James, Gorny Lead Idaho State Volleyball Past Montana

Missoula, MT---Ali Gorny posted her third triple-double of the season and Jennie James was nearly perfect on offense as the Idaho State Bengals defeated the University of Montana, 30-25, 22-30, 30-26, 30-22, in Big Sky Conference Volleyball action Friday night at the West Auxiliary Gym.

Gorny, a sophomore from Littlerock, CA, continued her impressive season by posting her third triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 22 assists and 12 digs. The triple-double was also Gorny's second against Montana this season. She had her first of the season against the Grizzlies on Oct. 5th in Pocatallo.

James had her best match of the season with 15 kills and no errors in 25 attacks for a .600 attack percentage. She also helped the Bengals to 12 total blocks with four blocks of her own. Melanie Tucker continued her improved play of late with 14 kills and 15 digs. Amanda Meixel also had a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs.

Lizzie Wertz led the way for the Grizzlies with 14 kills. Whitney Pavlik was the only other UM player in double figures with 10 kills.

ISU took the early lead, winning game one, 30-25. Montana had its best hitting game of the night with a .263 percentage, including 16 kills. But ISU didn't falter, winning games three and four. In game four the Bengals put the Grizzlies away with 22 kills against five errors for a .378 attack percentage.

ISU improved to 9-14 overall and 3-7 in Big Sky play with the win. Montana fell to 7-14 and 1-9. With the win the Bengals stay in the race for the sixth and final spot in the Big Sky Tournament. The Bengals entered play on Friday tied with Portland State for the final spot.
