Salt Lake City, UT---The University of Utah shot a sizzling 55 percent from the field and outrebounded Idaho State by 20 in the game as the Utes defeated the Bengals 91-52 in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Huntsman Center.
The Bengals led 2-0 and forced two ties at 2-2 and 4-4 before the Utes went on a 10-0 run, giving them a lead they would never surrender. The Utes would miss just 14 of 36 shots in the half and outscored ISU 51-22 in the first half. The Bengals, in contrast, shot just 34.5 percent (10-29) from the field.
Carly Marshall and Kim Smith led the way for the Utes with 21 points each. Julie Wood was the only other Ute in double figures in scoring with 15 points.
For the Bengals Ashley Toner and Merrilee Udy led the way with 12 points apiece. Laraine Skow, who played a team-high 34 minutes added 11 points for ISU. Udy's total was a season-high for the junior transfer from American Falls and all the points came off the bench. Toner also led the way with six rebounds.
The Bengals fall to 2-4 with the loss, while the Utes improve to 5-1 on the season. Idaho State will return to action in seven days when they travel to Boise, ID, to face the Broncos of Boise State at 2:00 p.m.
