Box Score

Moscow, ID---Stacey Peterson scored two second half goals to help Idaho State University come from behind and tie the University of Idaho, 2-2, in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon in rainy and windy conditions.

Idaho's Sarah April gave the Vandals a 1-0 lead at the half with a goal just 9:54 into the game. Peterson responded for the Bengals just 2:48 into the second frame. The Bengals brought the ball out of the back and sent the ball to right side to Carlie Tobiason, who beat a defender 40 yards from goal and served a cross to a streaking Stacy Peterson for a diving header into the net.

Idaho responded with a goal just eight minutes later by Emily Nelson to put the Vandals ahead 2-1. Again, Peterson responded for the Bengals. Heather Hunt collected the ball about 25 yards from the goal, beat a defender and fed ball through to Peterson, who juked Jenell Miller and beat the UI goalkeeper for the tying score. Neither team scored in the two overtime sessions.

With her two goals on Sunday Peterson is now tied for the ISU career lead in goals scored (15) and points (33). She also has seven goals this season, just one off the ISU school record of eight, set by Brooke Roberts in 1999.

"We had a much, much better performance today," "We began to take control late in the first half and that continued into the second half. We scored two quality goals and unfortunately gave up two bad goals, but were due in part to the bad conditions."

"But what pleased me is that we fought back and tied up the game twice. I was pleased with our performance, especially after our performance at Gonzaga. Their goalkeeper had an outstanding game and made some great saves. Congratulations to Idaho for winning Governor's Cup."

The Bengals dropped to 5-4-1 on the season, while Idaho improves to 2-5-2. With the tie Idaho wins the Governor's Cup with a 1-0-1 record, ahead of Boise State with a 1-1 record and ISU with an 0-1-1 mark. The Bengals will return to action on Friday, October 4, when they take on St. Louis in the first round of the University of Arizona Tournament at 7 p.m.
