Box Score
Pocatello, ID---Boise State scored three second half goals to overcome a halftime deficit as the Broncos defeated Idaho State 3-1 to win the Bengal Classic Sunday afternoon in women's soccer action at Davis Field.
Idaho State took an early lead on a penalty kick goal by Brooke Alton at the 4:17 mark of the first half. ISU outshot the Broncos 6-5 in the first period.
But things turned quickly in the second half. Idaho Falls native BreeAnn Milligan tied things up at 1-1 when she took a long kick into the box and headed it past ISU goalkeeper Shannon Boyle. Both teams had opportunities to score after that, but it wasn't until the 77th minute that BSU finally took control. After a foul just outside the box Abby Bernard placed the ball in the box to Nicole Feuz, who one-touched into the right side for the go-ahead goal.
Katie Wopat added a breakaway goal with nine seconds left in the game for the final margin.
"It was a pretty even game," ISU Head Coach Gordon Henderson said. "The thing that really stood out for us was the hit post and the three one-on-one's we missed."
Boise State outshot ISU in the game 14-11, including a 9-5 margin in the second half. The loss was the first in ISU history after the Bengals led at the half.
Idaho State fell to 3-1 on the season, while Boise State improved to 2-1. BSU won the second annual Bengal Classic with a perfect 2-0 record, while ISU took second with a 1-1 mark. The Bengals will hit the road for the next five weeks, starting with a trip to Salt Lake City to take on the University of Utah at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
