Jan. 18, 2003

Box Score

Bozeman, MT---Montana State used strong outside shooting to go with a suffocating defense to send the Idaho State Bengals to their fifth straight loss, a 77-54 decision in Big Sky Conference women's basketball action Saturday night at Worthington Arena.

Idaho State made just 18-of-61 shots from the field, 29.5 percent. In contrast the Bobcats hit on 45.6 percent of their shots (31-68).

But the key in the first half was the shooting of Candis Wilcox, who drilled four first half three-pointers to turn a tight ballgame into a runaway. With 5:41 left in the half, ISU trailed just 26-23. But the Bobcats ended the half with a 19-7 run to take a commanding 45-30 lead at the break. The Bengals never cut that lead under 15 points the rest of the way.

Ashley Toner led the way for the Bengals with 13 points and seven rebounds. Heidi Gifford came off the bench to score a season-high 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting in just 20 minutes of play.

ISU will return to action on Thursday when they host Sacramento State in Reed Gymnasium at 7:05 p.m.
