Flagstaff, AZ---Aaron Bond hit a short hook shot with 29.8 seconds left, and Jeremy Brown's tying three-point attempt at the buzzer was no good, and Northern Arizona ended a five-game losing streak with a 65-62 win over visiting Idaho State.
The final shot capped a wild last minute. Jeremy Brown hit a pair of free throws with 45.4 left to give the Bengals a 62-61 lead. NAU came upcourt, and Danny Boticki fouled Ryan McDade with 34.4 left. McDade, who scored a career-high 31 points, missed both shots, but Scott Henry lost the rebound off his foot with 31.2 left.
Bond then scored to make it 63-62, and ISU got stuck with 12.3 left, and Doug Oliver called his final timeout. Marquis Poole then lost the handle and double-dribbled with 6.2 left. After two Kelly Golob free throws with 5.1 left, Brown dribbled upcourt and squared up for a straight away three. McDade appeared to knock into Brown, and his shot careened off the top of the backboard, but no foul was called.
The Bengals were in foul trouble much of the night, with Jesse Smith and Ray Munyagi both fouling out. The Bengals were whistled for a season-high 29 fouls, including eight offensive fouls which negated nine Bengal points. Northern Arizona was whistled for just 15, and NAU had 26 free throws to Idaho State's 11.
For the Bengals, Henry led with a career-high tying 16 points. Rashad Kirkland and David Schroeder each had 11, and Jeremy Brown had 10. Northern Arizona outrebounded ISU 38-33.
