Pocatello, ID---The Idaho State University men's tennis team rolled to its first win of the season, defeating Gonzaga University, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon at the ISU Indoor Tennis Center.
Malcolm Swan got things going with a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Shawn Whitney at number one singles. Ioannis Stavridis defeated Reid Arthur by the same score at number three singles and Adam Krupp won at number four, 6-3, 6-4, over Drew Ernst. Hestian Stoica had the toughest match in singles, holding off a strong challenge from Bryce Cooper at number two, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The win at number two clinched the match for the Bengals.
William Okoh and Chris Sadek made it a clean sweep for the Bengals, defeating Andy Livingston and Robert Penny in the only doubles match, 8-2, giving the Bengals a 5-0 win.
Idaho State and Weber State were scheduled to play in a match on Wednesday, but Weber State was unable to play two matches on the same day and the match will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Bengals improved to 1-2 on the season with the win. ISU will return to action on Thursday, February 6th when they host Utah State at the ISU Indoor Tennis Center at 2:00 p.m.
