Pocatello--The Air Force Academy won all three doubles match and followed that up with win in five of six singles tilts to defeat Idaho State University in men's tennis action Saturday at the ISU Indoor Tennis Courts.
The singles portion of the match was tightly contested with two matches going to tiebreaks and one other one being decided by one service break in each set.
Malcolm Swan went toe-to-toe with Shannon Buck at number one singles, but fell in a tough loss, 7-5, 6-4. Hestian Stoica took a one-set lead on Eric Pittman at number two, but couldn't finish off the match and fell, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2. Butch Stavridis also won the first set at number three, but lost a second set tiebreaker and dropped a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, decision.
Martin Black defeated Chris Sadek at number four, 6-1, 6-3, while Tyler West dropped Adam Krupp, 6-1, 6-3, at number five. William Okoh picked up the lone ISU win when Chris Dong retired, down 4-1 in the first set.
The Falcons also swept all three doubles matches by identical 8-3 scores to pick up the doubles point.
The Bengals dropped to 0-1 on the season with the loss. They will return to the court on Saturday, January 25 when they travel to Boise, ID, to face Boise State.
