Pocatello, ID-- Idaho State continued its winning ways by defeating Northern Arizona 24-30, 30-28, 30-26, 30-27, in Big Sky Conference Volleyball action Saturday night at Reed Gymnasium. With the win the Bengals clinch no lower than the third seed in the upcoming Big Sky Conference Tournament.
The Bengals won three straight games in Saturday's match after dropping game one 24-30. ISU hit just .021 in the first game before turning things around in the next three games to finish with a .148 hitting percentage.
Ali Gorny continues to lead the Bengals in kills. She had 21 kills against the Lumberjacks, raising her average to six kills per game on the season. Gorny added 23 digs for her 16th double-double of the season. Kamie Olsen posted 15 kills against just five attack errors for a .294 hitting percentage. ISU's Jennie James had 12 kills and Kylie Gilmore posted 10.
As a team, the Bengals notched 70 kills compared to NAU's 53. ISU also had 88 digs and 12 team blocks.
Megan Van Anda led the way for NAU with 15 kills and 13 digs. NAU's Nikkie Randall had 14 kills and 13 digs with a .345 hitting percentage.
"It's nice to be back home, especially going into tournament play soon," ISU Head Coach Mike Welch said. "I thought we struggled a bit tonight offensively but played strong defensively, which kept us in the game."
With the win the Bengals improve to 9-4 in Big Sky play. They are 19-7 overall. NAU falls to 6-7 in conference play and 12-14 overall. ISU returns to play Saturday, hosting Sacramento State at 7 p.m. in Reed Gymnasium.
