Late Rally Falls Short, Utah State Defeats Bengals 73-62

Pocatello, ID - Idaho State made another valiant effort, but a comeback attempt from a 16-point second half deficit fell just short as the Utah State Aggies took a 73-62 decision over Idaho State. The Aggies are currently ranked #14 in the lates College Hoops Insider Mid Major Poll.

Utah State led 32-28 at the half and bolted out of the gate in the second half, hitting eight of their first nine shots in building the lead to 16 points at 50-34. However Jeff Gardner nearly willed ISU all the way back, connecting on three straight three-pointers over a 1:28 span to cut the lead to 50-45. The Bengals then got it as close as four twice, including the last time at 64-60 with 1:37 left after a Scott Henry layup, but Utah State hit six straight free throws to keep ISU at bay.

The first half was a see-saw affair that saw ISU go on an 8-0 run to take a 26-22 lead with 3:38 to go on a Maurice Thomas three-pointer, but the Aggiesended the half on a 10-2 run to lead 32-28 at the break.

The Bengals, now 3-5, return to action on Friday night as the take on New Orleans at the Adidas Hawai'i Festival at 8:00 pm Mountain Time. The Bengals will also play Texas Southern on saturday at the same time.
