Portland, OR--Portland State broke away from Idaho State in the first half and despite having three players score in double figures, the Bengals never recovered in a 78-64 loss to the Vikings in Big Sky Conference women's basketball action Saturday night at the Peter W. Stott Center.
The Vikings broke open a tight game in the first half with a 16-4 run that turned a 16-13 lead into a 32-17 lead. PSU would settle for a 38-25 lead at the half. In the second half the lead ballooned to as much as 19 points. The Bengals cut into the lead several times, but clutch three-pointers by Nikki Petticrew and other kept the Bengals at bay.
Ashley Toner led the way for the Bengals in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Laraine Skow hit on a season-high three three-pointers and finished with 13 points and a team-high five rebounds. Elisha Allen scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time in her Bengal career with 12 points. She also pulled down four rebounds.
Idaho State dropped its eighth game in the last nine outings and is now 5-12 overall and 1-5 in Big Sky play. Portland State improved to 8-10, 3-2. The Bengals will wrap up the first half of Big Sky Conference play when they travel to Ogden, UT, to take on Weber State on Saturday, February 8 at 6:05 p.m.
