Idaho State Women's Tennis Stays Hot, Defeats Gonzaga, 5-2

Boise, ID---Idaho State avenged its only loss of the season, defeating Gonzaga University, 5-2, in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Boas Tennis Center.

The Bengals, who fell to 57th ranked Boise State on Saturday fell behind early when Gonzaga won the doubles point. Eka Jvania and Hayli Scott won at number one, but Carol Tolsma and Armine Sarkavagyan fell to Aaryn Volkmann and Connie Head at number three doubles, giving GU the point.

But it was all ISU after that. Jvania, who is 4-1 this spring defeated Kendall Bates, 6-4, 6-2, at number one. Scott then followed with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Volkmann at number three. Tolsma had little trouble with Head in a 6-1, 6-3, victory. Sarkavagyan clinched the victory for the Bengals with a 7-5, 6-3, decision over Sirrah Williams at number five. Kristina Arutjunova completed the victory with a come-from-behind 6-7, 6-3, 10-4, win over Katie Rock at number four.

With the win Idaho State improved to 4-1 on the season. Gonzaga fell to 1-5. The Bengals will return to action on February 19, when they travel to Salt Lake City, UT, to face the University of Utah at 4:00 p.m.
