Utah Edges Idaho State, 4-3, in Women's Tennis Action

Salt Lake City, UT---Utah won two of three doubles matches, including a 9-7 decision at number two, to help the Utes edge Idaho State University 4-3, in women's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Eccles Tennis Center.

Eka Jvania and Hayli Scott got the Bengals a win at number one doubles with an 8-6 decision over Cassie Kasteler and Maria Svensson. Hilary Doyle and Rachel Alder defeated Armine Sarkavagyan and Carol Tolsma, 8-2. The decisive match for the doubles point was at number two where Ellen Svensson and Allison Hansen edged Kristina Arutjunova and Melanie Kranz, 9-7.

From there the Utes sewed up the match with three convincing wins in singles. ISU kept the match close with Jvania edging Kasteler at number one, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6; Scott coming from behind to beat Alder, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3; and Tolsma defeating Doyle, 2-6, 6-4 (10-2). But the Utes picked up singles wins at number two, four and five to edge the Bengals.

Idaho State fell to 4-2 on the season with the loss, while Utah improved to 3-4. The Bengals will return be off until March 7 when they travel to Colorado Springs, CO, to face Texas-Pan American at 6:00 p.m.
