Second Half Slump Sends ISU Women to Seventh Straight Loss

Pocatello, ID---A 31-8 run late in the second half turned a nip-and-tuck affair into a runaway as the Idaho State Bengals dropped their seventh straight game, by an 82-60 count against Northern Arizona in Big Sky Conference women's basketball Thursday night at the Walkup Skydome.

Led by Ashley Toner's 20 points, the Bengals stayed with Lumberjacks until the 12-minute mark of the second half. Merrilee Udy hit a three-pointer with 11:56 left to go to cut the NAU lead to 49-48. ISU would then go the next 4:18 without a field goal, until Ashley Thurman hit a three-pointer with 7:38 left, cutting the NAU lead to 62-55. The Bengals then went 5:03 without a basket. This time the Lumberjacks took advantage, outscoring ISU 18-1 over that stretch to put the game away.

Toner, a senior from Burley, was the only Bengal in double figures. She hit on 7-of-17 shots from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. She also pulled down six rebounds. All five NAU starters scored in double figures, led by Joy Dixon with 17 points. Jen Snitker had 16 points, Lindsey Foster had 15, Lacey Tolbert scored 14 and Alexis Rhodes had 10.

Idaho State dropped to 5-17 overall and 1-9 in Big Sky play. ISU has now lost seven in a row and 12 of 13 overall this season. NAU improved to 11-12 and 4-6 in the BSC. The Bengals will play their final road game of the season on Saturday at Sacramento State at 8:05 p.m.
