Pocatello, ID---The Idaho State Bengals ran out to a big early lead and never let up as they defeated Utah State University, 5-2, in men's tennis action Thursday afternoon at the ISU Indoor Tennis Courts.
The Bengals ran out to a 3-0 lead in all three doubles matches and cruised to victories to win the doubles point. The trend continued in the singles matches with ISU winning the first three completed to clinch the win. Malcolm Swan defeated Jason Trask in the number one singles match, 6-4, 7-6. Hestian Stoica rolled past Jonah Nelson at number two singles, 6-2, 6-3, and Ioannis Stavridis clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4, win at number three. Jemre Okoh defeated Jacob Jensen at number five, 7-5, 6-4, to pick up the final win.
Utah State's Brandon Butler defeated Pablo Garces, 6-0, 7-5, at number four, while Ryan Bair defeated Chris Sadek at number six to provide the Aggies with their only victories of the day.
The Bengals improved to 2-2 on the season with the win, their second straight. Utah State fell to 1-4. Idaho State will return to action on Feb. 14 when they travel to Las Vegas, NV, to participate in the UNLV Invitational.
