Weber State Sends Idaho State Women's Basketball to Fourth Straight Loss, 80-49

Ogden, UT--Weber State ran out to a big first half lead and never looked back in sending the Idaho State Bengals to their fourth straight loss and ninth in the last 10 games, 80-49, in women's basketball action Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.

The Wildcats used a hot early shooting hand to take leads of 14-0 and 25-8 in the first nine minutes of the game. Julie Gjertsen had 10 points and seven rebounds at the hlaf to lead the way. The Bengals used a late 12-6 run to cut the lead to just 13 points at 36-23 at the half.

However that was as close as the Bengals would get on the night. The Wildcats outscored ISU 22-6 to start the second half, upping the lead to 29 points at 58-29. From there WSU would lead by as much as 33 before settling for a 80-49 victory.

Merrilee Udy came off the bench to lead ISU in scoring with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range. Ashley Toner fouled out midway through the second half and was limited to just seven points and seven rebounds in the game. She also led ISU with four assists.

Gjertsen led all scorers with 17 points, including three three-pointers. Kristen Hasselbach was the only other Wildcat in double figures in scoring with 12 points. Karen Muller had 10 assists.

ISU will return to action on Thursday at Reed Gymnasium when they host Montana State at 7:05 p.m.
