Air Force Stops Idaho State in Women's Tennis Action, 4-1

March 9, 2003

Colorado Springs, CO---Melanie Kranz was the only Idaho State tennis player to pick up a win as the Air Force Academy defeated Idaho State University 4-1 in women's tennis action Sunday morning.

Eka Jvania and Hayli Scott got the Bengals off to a good start with a 9-8 win over Laura Nigro and Gina Black at number one doubles. The win raised the duo's record to 7-1 on the season. But ISU was unable to pick up points at either number two or three, giving the Falcons the doubles point.

Melanie Kranz won a tough two-set match, defeating Heather Shelby, 7-6, 7-5, for the Bengals first point in singles. But ISU lost the next three completed singles matches in straight sets to drop the match. Armine Sarkavagyan and Carol Tolsma had their matches stopped since Air Force had clinched the victory.

The loss dropped ISU to 5-3 on the season, while Air Force improved to 8-6. The Bengals will be off for the next two weeks before traveling to Irvine, California to participate in the UC-Irvine Tennis Tournament on March 23-25.
