Idaho State Women's Tennis Falls to Weber State, 4-3

April 15, 2003

Ogden, UT---A late Weber State comeback lifted the Wildcats past the Idaho State University Bengals, 4-3, in Big Sky Conference women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Ogden Athletic Club.

Idaho State held a late 3-2 lead with just two singles matches remaining and held the upper hand in both before the Wildcats rallied. Armine Sarkavagyan won the first set at number five singles, 6-4, but then dropped sets two and three by counts of 6-3 and 6-2 to tie the match at 3-3. That left it up to Carol Tolsma, who was facing Elana Smit at number four. Tolsma won the first set 6-3, but then dropped the next two sets 6-2 and 7-5 to give the Wildcats the upset win. Idaho State defeated WSU 6-1 earlier this season in Pocatello.

Eka Jvania and Melanie Kranz gave the Bengals their only two singles victories of the day. Jvania defeated Maria Bublik at number one, 6-1, 6-3. With the win Jvania improved to 12-4 on the season. Kranz rallied to defeat Alexandra Ilie at number two, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. The win lifted Kranz to 12-9 on the season.

Idaho State fell to 10-6 on the season with the loss, while Weber State improved to 10-7. The Bengals will wrap up regular season play with a match at Utah State on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Logan. ISU defeated USU 5-2 earlier this season in Pocatello.
