Logan, UT---Malcolm Swan won his eighth straight singles match, helping the Idaho State Bengals to a 5-2 win over Utah State in men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon. The win was the Bengals fifth in the last six outings.
Swan, a senior from Cairons, Queensland, Australia, was taken to the limit by Jason Trask at number one singles, but held on for a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, victory. The win lifted Swan to a career-best 23-7 on the season. Swan went 23-7 during the 1999-2000 season as well. Swan also teamed with Adam Krupp to defeat Jordan Butler and Jonah Nelson. The win was Swan's 13th in doubles this season, a career high.
Hestian Stoica also remained hot, winning his fourth straight match, 6-3, 6-3, over Brandon Butler at number two. Adam Krupp evened his record at 8-8 on the season with a 6-3, 6-1, win over Jordan Butler. Pablo Garces won for the fifth time in six matches with a 7-6, 7-5, victory over Ryan Bair.
With the win the Bengals improved to 8-10 overall, while Utah State fell to 7-12. Idaho State will wrap up regular season play with a key Big Sky Conference matchup against Montana on Friday at 1:00 p.m. in Pocatello.
