Logan, UT---For the second straight match the Idaho State Bengals were unable to hold on to a late 3-2 lead and fell to the Utah State Aggies, 4-3, in women's tennis action Thursday afternoon.
After falling behind 1-0 through doubles play the Bengals took control with straight sets wins at #1, #3 and #6. Eka Jvania defeated Caroline Pollock, 6-4, 7-5, at number one. She improved to 13-4 on the season with the win. Hayli Scott defeated Lindsey Bennion at number three, 6-1, 7-5. The win lifted her to a team-best 17-4 in singles. The win gave her 30 combined singles and doubles wins this season. Kristina Arutjunova rolled past Haley Hawkins, 6-2, 6-1, at number six, giving ISU the 3-2 lead.
For the second straight match the Bengals fate came down to the matches at number four and five. Armine Sarkavagyan won the first set at number five, 7-6, but Richelle Ferguson rallied to win sets two and three, 6-2, 6-4. Carol Tolsma battled, but fell at number four, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
With the loss the Bengals fall to 10-7 on the season, while Utah State improves to 8-9. Idaho State is finished with their regular season schedule and will begin play in the Big Sky Tournament on April 24 in Portland, OR.
