Bozeman, MT--Montana State hit .227 in the match, while holding Idaho State to a .047 percentage as the Bobcats defeated the Bengals in the Big Sky Conference volleyball opener for both teams, 30-14, 30-22, 30-28, at Shroyer Gym Thursday night.
Ali Gorny, who leads the Big Sky in kills per game this season, helped that statistic with 12 kills in the match. However Gorny also posted 18 attack errors for a -.109 attack percentage, easily her worst match of the season. Felice Yocopis was the only other player in the match in double figures in kills with 11, including a match-high .429 attack percentage. Gorny added 18 digs to post her eighth double-double of the season.
Meggie Malyurek led the way for the Bobcats with nine kills, while Kamber Kelly, Angela Wiebe and Megan Zanto each had seven kills.
The loss was disappointing for the Bengals, who started the season with a 10-3 record, the best 13-match mark in 14 years for the program. The Bobcats came out of the gates blazing, hitting .387, while holding ISU to just eight kills and a -.073 percentage in winning game one 30-14. While their attack percentage, and their margin of victory decreased in the following two games, MSU won them 30-22 and 30-28 to close out the Bengals in just three games.
With the loss ISU fell to 10-4 overall and 0-1 in Big Sky Conference play. MSU improved to 10-3 overall and 1-0. ISU will return to action on Saturday when they travel up the road to Missoula, MT, to face the University of Montana at 7:00 p.m.
