Idaho State Volleyball Falls to Utah State in Three Games

Logan, UT--Idaho State University continued its strong play, but fell to the undefeated Utah State Aggies, 30-22, 30-27, 30-27, in women's volleyball action Wednesday night at the Smith Spectrum.

Kamie Olsen, who graduated from high school in West Jordan, UT, had another strong match, posting eight kills and eight blocks. She had just one attack error for a .333 attack percentage. Ali Gorny led the team in kills with 11, but saw her double-double streak come to an end as she had just four digs. Martha Brinton had her third double-double of the season with 29 assists and 11 digs, a team high.

The Aggies, who are undefeated on the season at 4-0, were led by a trio of players with 10 or more kills. Zuzana Cernianska had 19 kills, Beth Hodge had 14 kills and E. Davis Cartwright had 13 kills. Andrea Delsigne had 45 assist and 10 digs for USU.

USU was pushed by the Bengals, but ISU was unable to pick up a game. The Aggies won game one 30-22, then held off ISU in both games two and three by 30-27 scores. Game three was especially tough as there were five ties and four lead changes. USU has lost just one game in four matches this season.

With the loss, ISU fell to 2-2 on the season. The Bengals will return to action on Friday, September 5, when they travel to New York, NY, to participate in the Rose Hill Classic. ISU will take on Providence on Friday at 12:00 p.m. then face St. Peter's at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday ISU will face tournament host Fordham at 8:30 a.m.
