Ogden, UT--Martha Brinton recorded her first double-double of the season with 25 assists and 11 digs and Ashley VanderBloomen tallied her fifth 20-plus digs match of the year as Idaho State defeated Weber State 3-1 Saturday night in Ogden, Utah.
With the win, Idaho State moves to 7-12 overall, 3-2 in Big Sky play. Weber State falls to 2-16 overall, 1-4 in league play. The Bengals defeated the Wildcats in four games, 30-18, 30-23, 26-30, and 30-26.
"We started the match real strong tonight," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "We were in complete control for two and a half games. We played well in game three, but didn't close out the game as strong as we started it."
Ali Gorny led the Bengals with 14 kills. The senior outside hitter also recorded eight digs on the night. Nikki Randall helped ISU with 13 kills, while Kamie Olsen tallied 12. Felice Yocopis helped ISU's defensive effort with nine blocks.
"Each of our outside hitters shined at different times tonight," Welch said. "I thought Kamie (Olsen) had a great offensive match tonight. Felice (VanderBloomen) was blocking machine tonight, and Ashley (VanderBloomen) was great on defense."
As a team, Idaho State recorded 57 kills to WSU's 51. The Bengals tallied a hitting percentage of .158. ISU had 14 team blocks on the night.
Kolbie Murphey led the Wildcats with 11 kills with just one error, while Lindsay Phillips helped with 10 kills. Kaylianne Valenzuela led WSU with 47 assists, while Kaytie Thorpe led Weber with 29 digs.
The Bengals will return home for a pair of matches at Reed Gym. ISU will host Big Sky foe Northern Arizona on Oct. 15 and Sacramento State on Oct. 16. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
