Pocatello, ID--Ali Gorny recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 13 digs as Idaho State defeated Northern Arizona 3-0 Friday night at Reed Gym. The Bengals continue play Saturday, hosting Sacramento State at 7 p.m.
With the win, Idaho State improves to 8-12 overall, 4-2 in Big Sky play. Northern Arizona falls to 4-12 overall, 2-4 in league play.
The Bengals cruised through game one, defeating NAU 30-20. Down 16-26 in game two, ISU battled back to take the game 30-28. It was more of the same for ISU in game three, taking a 30-20 victory.
"I thought we played awesome in games one and three," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "Our comeback in game two was great. Our team showed a lot of heart to come back."
Gorny's 16 kills came on just two errors for an impressive attack percentage of .452. Ashley VanderBloomen led the Bengals with 16 digs, while Lisa Bushman fronted ISU in assists with 23. Heather Kinnison tallied a game-high seven blocks, while Felice Yocopis added six.
As a team, Idaho State recorded 40 kills with 17 errors for an attack percentage of .228. The Bengals held NAU to 34 kills on 25 errors for an attack percentage of .078. ISU tallied 11 team blocks to NAU's one.
"We feel very good about this match," Welch said. "We are excited to come back and play tomorrow. We are psyched and hope to carry the momentum into our match with Sacramento State tomorrow."
ISU hosts Sacramento State Saturday at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym. The Bengals then take to the road for pair of matches in Montana.
