Box Score

Pocatello, ID--Montana scored two first half goals and kept Idaho State scoreless as the Grizzlies defeated Idaho State 2-0 Sunday afternoon in a Big Sky matchup at Davis Field.

With the loss, Idaho State falls to 5-5-3 overall, 0-2-1 in Big Sky play. Montana improves to 6-5-2 overall, 2-0-1 in league play.

The Grizzlies got on the board early, scoring in the seventh minute when Tara Schwager rebounded a ball off the post and into the net for the score. Montana scored again in the 41st minute when Meghan Chambers got a ball that bounced high off the ground and headed it into the goal for the score.

"This was a tough loss to take," said ISU head coach Mark Salisbury. "Montana is a great team and they play very physical. We gave up two early goals that we shouldn't have given up. It's hard to play against a team like Montana, who plays very aggressive, using four forwards up top."

ISU did outshoot the Bengals 9-8 with each team tallying five shots on goal. The Bengals tallied two corner kicks to UM's one. ISU recorded 17 fouls to Montana's 11.

Shannon Boyle played all 90 minutes for ISU, tallying three saves with two goals allowed. Montana keeper Jamie Rizzuto played 90 minutes for UM, recording five saves.

Jennifer Loo led the Bengals with three shots on the game, two on goal. Ashlee Maughan tallied two shots in the effort.

Idaho State will continue play at home on Oct. 21 against Sacramento State at 3 p.m. The Bengals will also celebrate homecoming with a matchup against Portland State on Oct. 23.
