Pocatello, ID--Idaho State overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit, scoring two goals in the second half to defeat Portland State 2-1 Saturday on senior day at Davis Field. The Bengals will wrap up regular season play on Oct. 31 at Northern Arizona.
With the win, Idaho State moves into a tie for second place in the Big Sky Conference with Portland State and Montana. The Bengals improve to 7-5-3 overall, 2-2-1 in league play. Portland State falls to 6-7-3 overall, 2-1-1 in Big Sky play.
"This was an important win for us today," said ISU head coach Mark Salisbury. "It was one of those games where every single player on our team played an important role. Everyone contributed today. I'm proud of the way we battled back and got the win today."
After trailing 1-0 at half, Idaho State immediately put pressure on the Vikings as Jennifer Loo scored just 32 seconds into the half to tie the game. Jessie Bobert and Chantal Kim were credited with assists on the goal.
ISU stuck again in the 61st minute when Natalie Graham sprinted down the middle of the field and received a pass from Stepahnie Anderson. Graham got the ball past PSU keeper Niki Brooks for the Bengal goal.
"Our forwards played great today," Salisbury said. "We put a lot of pressure on Portland State's defense and our forwards did what they needed to do."
ISU keeper Shannon Boyle was impressive in goal, recording four saves in the win. Portland State goalie Niki Brooks tallied seven saves with two goals allowed.
The Bengals out-shot the Vikings 15-12 on the day after being out-shot 7-3 in the first half.
Next up for Idaho State will be a matchup on the road at Northern Arizona on Oct. 31. A win over Northern Arizona would secure a spot in the Big Sky Tournament.
