Pocatello, ID--Idaho State opened a three-match homestand with a 3-0 loss to Eastern Washington Friday night at Reed Gym. The Bengals will continue play at home on Saturday night against Portland State at 7 p.m.
ISU was swept 3-0 Friday night, falling 27-30, 24-30, and 22-30. With the loss, Idaho State falls to 9-15 overall, 5-5 in Big Sky play. The Eagles improve to 16-6 overall, 8-1 in league play.
"We settled for mediocrity tonight," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "We had good leads in all three games, but we didn't close one of them out. That's why they (Eastern Washington) are in first place and we are in the middle of the pack."
Kamie Olsen led the Bengals with a team-high 10 kills. She had just five errors in 27 total attacks. Felice Yocopis added nine kills in the effort, while Ali Gorny tallied eight. Ashley VanderBloomen led the Bengals in digs with 16, while Martha Brinton fronted ISU in assists at 16.
Lizzy Mellor led the Eastern Washington charge with a game-high 17 kills. Deanna Albers helped with 12 kills and a game-high 37 assists.
As a team, Idaho State tallied 40 kills with a hitting percentage of .122. The Bengals had 22 errors in the match. Eastern Washington recorded 52 kills on 24 errors for a team hitting percentage of .207.
Idaho State will continue play at Reed Gym tomorrow against Portland State. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
