Pocatello, ID--Ali Gorny tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 16 digs, while Kamie Olsen added 14 kills as Idaho State defeated Portland State 3-0 Saturday night at Reed Gym. The Bengals improve to 10-15 overall, 6-5 in Big Sky Conference play.
The Bengals swept the Vikings, 30-27, 30-27, and 30-25. With the loss, Portland State falls to 12-11 overall, 4-6 in league play.
"We came out fired up tonight," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "We played inspired defense, which was something we didn't do last night. I was impressed with the defense tonight. We made some impressive acrobatic moves and played very well together."
Gorny tallied her 15 kills with just six errors on 34 total attacks. Olsen's 14 kills marks the second consecutive night that she tallied 10 or more kills. Nikki Randall was impressive for the Bengals, tallying 10 kills on just five errors for a hitting percentage of .132.
Martha Brinton led the Bengal offense with a season-high 46 assists. Felice Yocopis helped on defense with 15 digs, while Ashley VanderBloomen added 12. Heather Kinnison led ISU in blocks with six, while Olsen helped with five.
As a team, Idaho State tallied 11 team blocks compared to PSU's six. The Bengals also out-digged the Vikings 55-52. ISU hit .268 on the night, while Portland State was .189.
Melissa Osterloh led the Viking attack with a game-high 17 kills on five errors and 38 attacks. Rachel Stevens had 41 assists in the effort, while Kristin Ratzlaff added 26 digs.
The Bengals will play their final game at home next Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. against Weber State. ISU will then close out regular season play with two games on the road Nov. 11 and 13 against Sacramento State and Northern Arizona.
