Final Stats
Pocatello, ID --- Weber State amassed 181 yards of offense in the first quarter, bolting out to a 14-0 lead, one they would never relinquish as the Bengals dropped a 26-14 decision to the Wildcats, giving Weber State their first win of the season.
Weber State took the opening kickoff and went 80 yards in six plays, keyed by a 29 run by Nick Chournos and two 25-yard passes, the second of which went for a touchdown by Chris McConnell. After a missed field goal, Weber State scored on a 5-yard Chournos run to cap a 97-yard scoring drive for a 14-0 lead.
Idaho State responded with a 1-yard touchdown run from "The Cooler" Jermaine Horn near the end of the first quarter. From that point on, ISU held Weber State to a pair of Joe Johnson field goals. The Bengals however couldn't score in the second or third quarters, although they opened the fourth with a 12-yard touchdown catch from Mark Hetherington to Sale' Key to make it 20-14.
Just when it looked like the tide was turning in Idaho State's favor, a broken play all but sealed the deal. Facing first and 20 at the Weber State 45, Ian Pizzaro eluded a fierce rush and found nothing but turf in front of him, rumbling 51 yards to the 4-yard line, where two plays later, he finished the drive from 2-yards out.
Idaho State made a game attempt at a comeback, but after driving to the Weber State 20 with eight minutes remaining, Mark Hetherington was sacked for the second time in the game by Brady Fosmark, this for a loss of 20. ISU's 4th-and 28 pass fell incomplete, and Weber State ran out the final 7:19 of the game.
For ISU, Sale' Key caught six passes for 100 yards (his fifth career 100-yard receiving game) and a touchdown, and Josh Barnett added 89 yards on the ground. Mark Hetherington was 22-of-34 for 257 yards and a touchdown, along with one interception.
