Logan, UT--Despite a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double game from sophomore forward Molly Hays, Idaho State dropped a 67-61 decision Monday afternoon to Utah State in Logan. With the loss, Idaho State falls to 4-6 overall. The Bengals will have a nine-day break before hosting Wyoming on Dec. 30.
"We didn't get it done today," said ISU head coach Jon Newlee. "I'm disappointed with the way we played. We didn't do enough to win a game that we should very well have won."
After trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, Idaho State went to its bench for help. Steve Seitz and Chelsey Chambers helped ISU off the bench with eight and six first half points respectively. The play helped ISU go into halftime with a 25-25 tie.
ISU took a the lead for the first time in the second half, but couldn't hold on to it as the Bengals were outscored 42-36 in the second half.
"We ran out of gas," said Newlee, whose team was down to just seven players after a pair of injuries. "It's hard to have just one day rest and just seven players to participate."
The double-double night for Hays marks her fourth of the season and second in back-to-back games. Seitz finished the game with a career-high 11 points. Andrea Sivakova, who played just four first-half minutes, scored all eight of her points in the second half.
Ali Aird led Utah State with a career-high 17 points and 15 rebounds. Taylor Richards was the only other Aggie in double figures with 10 points.
The Bengals will have nine days off before their next contest, a Dec. 30 matchup with Wyoming at Reed Gym.
