Final Stats
Pocatello, ID -- Idaho State made a game of it late, but a strong first half for the University of Portland in which they hit 15 of their final 21 shots after starting out a miserable 1-for-12 spelled the story in Portland's 82-73 win over Idaho State in the second game of a four-game homestand for the Bengals.
Idaho State opened the half strong defensively, holding the Pilots to 1-for-12 shooting to open the half, but Portland outrebounded ISU in the opening half 21-11, and the Pilots slowly pulled away. Up just 12-10 at the 10:55 mark, Portland went on a 14-4 run over the next 3:35 before Arzelle Lewis answered with one of his five threes on the night.
A Jesse Smith jumper at the 5:17 mark made it 28-21, but Portland scored 22 points over the final 4:31 of the first half to take a 50-30 lead into the locker room.
Idaho State kept within striking distance after trailing by 23 early in the second, and the Bengals slowly chipped away as Logan Kinghorn went 5-for-5 in the second half, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in scoring 15 points on the night. ISU whittled the lead down to 10 at 73-63 with 2:03 left on Kinghorn's final three-pointer, and Arzelle Lewis's final three closed it to within seven at 75-68, but Portland hit 7-fo-8 free throws in the final minute to keep ISU at bay.
The Bengals continue their four-game homestand with an intrastate clash with the Idaho Vandals on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm
