Boise, ID--Despite a career-high 25 points from sophomore forward Molly Hays, Idaho State fell 60-52 to cross-state rival Boise State Monday night at Bronco Gym. The Bengals fall to 3-4 overall, while Boise State improves to 2-2.
"We just didn't execute well at all tonight," said ISU head coach Jon Newlee. "We played soft and missed our assignments. Their put-backs killed us tonight."
Hays' career-high 25 points came on 7-of-14 shots from the field. Hays connected on 8-of-10 free throws. She also tallied eight rebounds. Camile Michaelson tied a career high with 13 points on 6-of-13 shots from the field.
The Bengals connected on just 7-of-30 shots from the field in the first half, 11-of-34 in the second. Idaho State, who averaged 73.0 points a game coming into the contest, tallied just 52 on the night.
"We just couldn't put our shots in tonight," Newlee said. "It was the Texas A&M Corpus Christi game all over again. We had a lot of easy shots that we could not finish. Hopefully, we will rebound from this game like we did against Texas A&M and play strong against Oregon on Thursday."
Trailing 27-18 at the half, Idaho State outscored Boise State 34-33 in the second half to drop the game by eight points.
Boise State won the battle of the boards 48-37. The Broncos outscored ISU 24-20 in the paint.
Also hurting the Bengals was the injured foot of Christa Brossman. Brossman played a season-low eight minutes in the contest.
Jamie Hawkins led Boise State with a 13-point, 12 rebound double-double effort. Michelle Hessing added a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Up next for the Bengals will be a Thursday matchup with Oregon in Eugene at McArthur Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. (MST). The game can be heard live on KISU 91.1 FM radio. The broadcast can also be heard on the web at www.isubengals.com.
