Pocatello, ID-The Idaho State men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Weber State Tuesday afternoon in the team's Big Sky Opener at Reed Gym.
The Bengals picked up the first point of the match by winning two of the three double's matches. ISU then got five of the six singles wins to secure the victory.
ISU ups its record to 5-4 overall, 1-0 in Big Sky play. Weber State falls to 1-10 overall, 1-1 in league play.
ISU's Ioannis Stavridis and Marc Pijoan teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeated Jonathan Engelbrect and Spencer Marchant 8-4. Bengals Ivan Moferdin and Kapil Desai got a win at No. 2 doubles with a 9-8 (7-4) defeat of Weber State's Andrew Corlett and Zach Levetan.
Stavridis also picked up a win at the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Engelbrect 7-5, 6-4. Moferdin defeated WSU's Mathis Saberon 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Pijoan got another win at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Travis Covington. ISU's Jemre Okoh won at No. 5 singles, defeating Levetan, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. Pablo Garces got ISU's final win of the afternoon-a 6-2, 6-3 win over WSU's Daniel Abeaboeru.
