Bengals Continue to Roll, Defeat Portland State 74-44 on the Road

Portland, OR--Molly Hays scored a game-high 11 points and Lindy Whitley added 10 as Idaho State defeated Portland State 74-44 Thursday night in Portland. The win the second-straight 30-point victory for the Bengals.

Idaho State ups its record to 18-6 overall, 10-2 in Big Sky play. Portland State falls to 6-19 overall, 3-8 in league play.

Hays scored her 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting, 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Hays also tallied seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 26 minutes of play. Whitley added her 10 points on 4-of-9 shots from the field.

The Bengal bench scored 32 points in the win. Monika Marekova came off the bench to score nine points on three treys. Freshmen Blair Massey and Amy Ferguson each tallied six points off the bench.

ISU shot 44 percent from the field, 36 percent from beyond the arc. The squad shot just nine free throws, connecting on 77.8 percent from the line.

Defensively, Idaho State tallied eight steals, forcing the Vikings into 13 turnovers. The Bengals tallied 18 offensive rebounds for an overall 51. ISU held the Vikings to just 23 rebounds. On the offensive side of the ball, ISU tallied 17 assists.

Jenna Washington led the Vikings with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Sarah Hedgepeth added 10 points and eight rebounds in the effort for Portland State.

ISU never trailed in the game. The Bengals went into halftime up 41-25.

The Bengals retain sole possession of second place in the Big Sky, followed closely by Weber State, who defeated Eastern Washington Thursday night to up it's league record to 9-3. Montana clinched the Big Sky regular season championship with a win at Sacramento State Thursday night. The Griz will host the Big Sky Tournament March 11-13.

The Bengals stay on the road for a Saturday match-up at Eastern Washington. Tip-off is slated for 8:05 p.m. (MST). ISU will wrap up its regular season at Weber State on March 6.
