Bengals Sweep Two-Game Road Trip, Defeat Eastern Washington 83-67 in Cheney

Cheney, WA--Lindy Whitley scored a game-high 23 points and Heidi Gifford added 16 as Idaho State defeated Eastern Washington 83-67 Saturday in Cheney, Washington. With the win, the Bengals clinch the second seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Big Sky Tournament.

The win improves ISU's record to 19-6 overall, 11-2 in Big Sky play. Eastern Washington falls to 12-13 overall, 5-7 in league play.

Whitley scored her 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting. She was 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Whitley also added four rebounds, four assists, and a steal in the effort. Gifford's 16 points came on 7-of-11 shots. She also recorded five rebounds.

ISU's Annie Anderson recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She connected on 7-of-10 shots at the free-throw line and tallied four assists, three steals, and one block.

The Bengal bench recorded it's second-straight game with 30 or more points. ISU's bench tallied 32 points compared to EWU's bench, which scored just 15.

Idaho State shot 45.9 percent from the field to Eastern Washington's 40 percent. The Bengals connected on 40 percent of their shots from beyond the arc and 67 percent from the charity stripe. Defensively, Idaho State recorded eight steals and forced the Eagles into 18 turnovers. The Bengals outrebounded EWU 41-38.

The Bengals went into half time with a 39-35 lead. ISU's biggest lead of the contest was 19 points at the 1:48 mark in the second half. ISU outscored the Eagles 44-32 in the second to secure the win.

Stephanie Ulmer led the Eagles with 21 points on 6-of-9 shots. Kathleen Nygaard recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Felice Moore came off the bench to add 14 points for Eastern Washington.

The Bengals will close out the regular season schedule at Weber State on March 6 at 7:05 p.m. The Big Sky Conference Tournament will be held in Missoula, Montana, March 11-13.
