Ogden, UT-Idaho State fell 74-54 to Big Sky foe Weber State Saturday night in Ogden, Utah. The game closes the book on regular season play. The Bengals now look forward to Big Sky Tournament action in Montana next week.
The Bengals kept it close early with a 10-10 tie at the 10:49 mark in the first half, but WSU then went on a 10-0 run to go into halftime with a 31-21 advantage.
After trailing by 17, Idaho State made a 10-3 run, but led by Weber State's Julie Gjersten, the Wildcats rolled of 14 straight points, 12 from Gjersten to extend its lead and secure the game.
Freshman Blair Massey and senior Annie Anderson led the Bengals with 10 points each. Anderson also tallied nine rebounds and three blocks in the effort. Freshman Molly Hays recorded nine rebounds.
As a team, Idaho State shot just 24.7 percent from the field and 10 percent from beyond the arc. The Bengals connected on just 3-of-30 three-pointers. Weber State hit 47.9 percent of its shots from the field, 40 percent from the trey.
Gjersten led the Wildcats with a game-high 21 points with seven rebounds in 35 minutes of play. Kristen Clyder-Gardner and Angela Sampson each added 17 points for WSU.
Idaho State (19-7, 11-3) finish regular season play tied with Weber State (17-10, 11-3) for second place in the Big Sky standings. The second seed in the conference tournament will go to the team with the highest RPI on Monday. ISU held a significant higher RPI than the Wildcats going into the game.
ISU will travel to participate in the Big Sky Tournament in Missoula, Montana on Thursday.
