Cheney, WA-The Idaho State men and women's tennis teams picked up wins over Big Sky Conference foe Eastern Washington Saturday in Cheney. The ISU men shutout the Eagles 7-0 and the Bengal women recorded a 6-1 victory over EWU.
The Bengal men won two of the three double's matches for the first point. Ioannis Stavridis and Hestian Stoica teamed up at first doubles to defeat Eastern Washington's Kevin Erickson and Aaron Heier 8-6. ISU's Ivan Moferdin and Jemre Okoh won at second doubles over EWU's Eric Eggers and Michael Mosback 8-6.
ISU's men swept the single's matches. Stoica defeated Erickson 6-2, 6-2 at first singles. Moferdin got a win at second singles, defeating Heier 7-6 (4), 6-4. Marc Pijoan defeated Eric Eggers at third singles, 6-2, 6-0. Pablo Garces recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles over Hair. Masimba Ruwo won at fifth singles, 6-2, 2-6, 4-6 against Shane Saskey. Okoh won at the sixth spot over Anthony Venable, 6-7(7), 6-4, (8-10).
On the women's side, Idaho State won two if its three double's matches to snag the first point of the match. Hayli Scott and Melissa Bessman teamed up to defeat Kimberly Cabiling 8-3, while Melanie Kranz and Armine Sarkavagyan got an 8-5 win over EWU's Marie Carroll and Lesley Liddell at third doubles.
The ISU women won five of the six remaining single's matches to claim the victory. Sarkavagyan won 6-3, 7-5 at first singles over Cabiling. Bessman defeated Jen Jolley 6-2, 6-2 at second singles. Denise Cockrell got past Carroll 6-4, 6-4 at the third spot, while Scott picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Leanna Mehren at fourth singles. Katherine Zigars defeated Wanda Freeman 6-4, 6-3 at the fifth spot to pick up the final victory of the day for ISU.
