Idaho State Soccer Defeats Utah State 1-0 in Exhibition Contest

Aug. 20, 2004

Pocatello, ID--Jessie Bobert's goal on an assist from Natalie Graham in the 19th minute of the first half proved to be enough as the Idaho State women's soccer team defeated Utah State 1-0 in an exhibition contest Friday afternoon at Davis Field. Bobert, a junior from Vancouver, Wash., scored her goal from the middle of the box off Graham's assist from the left side to give ISU the 1-0 lead early. The Bengals controlled play throughout the contest, outshooting the Aggies 4-2 on goal. Bengal goalkeeper Shannon Boyle had a relatively easy day in goal, making just two saves to pick up the shutout. "I think we did a great job of controlling the game," ISU coach Mark Salisbury said. "Our team was the aggressor today. We did a good job of wanting the ball and going after it. It took us awhile to get into the flow of the game, but we got better and better as the game went on. I'm proud of our team today. They are committed to do what we want them to do and they went out and showed that today. I couldn't ask for much more." Bobert and Hollie Christensen each tallied two shots on goal for the Bengals, while Sarah Hobdey recorded ISU's only other shot of the contest. Senior forward Lacy Kennington tallied Utah State's only two shots on goal of the game. "This was a great opportunity for me to finally get a good look at our team and see what we need to work on," Salisbury said. "It's nice to have a couple of preseason games to show you what you need to work on before we open the regular season." Idaho State stays at home for another exhibition matchup at Davis Field on Sunday, Aug. 22 against Utah at 1 p.m. The Bengals will open up regular season play on Friday, Aug. 27 against Brigham Young at 5 p.m.
