Pocatello, ID--Idaho State remains nearly perfect on the season after a 1-1 double overtime tie against Cal State Northridge Sunday afternoon at Davis Field. With the tie, Idaho State is now 4-0-1 overall on the season.
"I'm not disappointed at all in our team today," said ISU head coach Mark Salisbury. "I thought our players played extremely well today. We battled and hung in there the entire game. We'll take this game and learn from it, and move on to next week."
Idaho State was first to get on the scoreboard with a penalty kick goal from Shawna Park in the 62nd minute. The Bengals received the penalty kick after ISU's Jennifer Loo dribbled past Northridge defenders into the box where she was fouled. The goal is Park's second of the season.
The Matadors scored exactly three minutes later in the 65th minute when Leila Pate connected on an assist from Kaitlyn Kelly. Pate received the pass from Kelly in the middle of the box and then scored into the left side of the net.
Both Idaho State and Northridge tallied 14 shots on the day. The Bengals had five shots on goal, while the Matadors recorded eight. Each team had four corner kicks.
ISU's Loo led the Bengals with five shots on the day with one on goal. Natalie Graham and Park each recorded three shots with one each on goal. ISU keeper Shannon Boyle played all 110 minutes, giving up one goal with seven saves.
Next up for the Bengals will be a pair of road games next week. ISU travels to play Idaho in Moscow on Sept. 17 and then heads to Spokane, Washington for a Sunday afternoon matchup with Gonzaga.
