Pocatello, ID--Idaho State fell 3-1 to Wyoming in the team's first game of the Idaho State Classic Thursday at Reed Gym. The Bengals continue play Friday night against Gonzaga at 7 p.m.
With the loss, Idaho State falls to 3-8 overall, while Wyoming improves its record to 4-4.
The Bengals won the first game 30-27 before dropping three straight, 27-30, 17-30, 27-30. ISU had opportunities to take the fourth game of the match, but errors hurt the Bengals down the stretch.
"We should have won the fourth game of the match," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "We just made too many errors in the last part of the game. The bottom line is that we just got too relaxed after we won the first game."
Ali Gorny led the Bengals with 15 kills on just five errors. The senior outside hitter also tallied 12 digs in the effort. Lisa Bushman recorded a team-high 29 assists, while Ashley VanderBloomen led ISU with 17 kills.
As a team, ISU connected for 65 kills and 33 errors for an attack percentage of .177. The Cowgirls killed the ball 67 times on just 17 errors for a percentage of .318.
The Bengals will continue play against Gonzaga on Friday at 7 p.m. Wyoming moves on to take on New Mexico in the second game of the Idaho State Classic. The Cowgirls will take on NMSU Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Reed Gym.
