Bengal Volleyball Drops Season Opener 3-0 at 11th-Ranked Colorado State

Pocatello, ID--Idaho State's volleyball team opened up the season with a 3-0 loss to 11th-ranked Colorado State Wednesday evening in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Bengals now head to Wyoming to compete in the Cowgirl Classic Sept. 2-4. The Bengals hung tough with the 11th-ranked team in the nation, tallying 20-plus points in each game. ISU fell in straight sets, 30-25, 30-22, 30-20. With the loss, Idaho State falls to 0-1 overall on the season. The Rams improve to 2-1 overall. Felice Yocopis led the Bengals with 10 kills. The junior outside hitter also recorded a team-high eight digs on the night. Senior setter Martha Brinton led ISU with 22 assists, while Heather Kinnison led the team with six blocks and a team-best .385 hitting percentage (6-1-13). As a team, the Bengals tallied 33 kills on 108 total attacks. The squad recorded 31 digs and 15 blocks on the night. The Rams tallied 45 kills on 100 total attacks. Colorado State was led by Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon with 10 kills with a .474 hitting percentage. Bri French helped the Rams, hitting .500 and Casey Bauer tallied six kills with a .667 hitting percentage. Tess Rogers led CSU with 10 digs. Idaho State will travel straight to Wyoming where it will compete in the Cowgirl Classic. The Bengals will face Wyoming on Tuesday, Sept. 2, fifth-ranked Minnesota on Wednesday, Sept. 3, and Texas-San Antonio on Thursday, Sept. 4. ISU will open its home slate on Tuesday, Sept. 7th against Montana-Western.
