Kinghorn's Career-High 27 Not Enough as ISU Loses Fifth Straight, 86-68 at Northern Arizona

Jan. 15, 2005

Final Stats

Flagstaff, AZ -- Logan Kinghorn scored a career-high 27 points in a breakout game for him, but Idaho State once again fell behind by double-digits early, and the Bengals never fully recovered, losing 8668- at Northern Arizona, ISU's fifth straight loss.

Idaho State didn't hit a basket until the 13:40 mark of the first half when Doug D'Amore drained a three, but by that point it was already 14-0 NAU. It marked the fifth straight game that the Bengals fell behind by double digits, and the third Big Sky game in which they fell behind by double digits within the game's first eight minutes.

The Bengals, down 24-6 at one point, were able to keep the game within striking distance due to Logan Kinghorn. The freshman came off the bench in the first half and poured in 14 points, including a pair of highlight reel dunks and a 15-foot jumper at the halftime buzzer to make it 43-31 at the break.

Idaho State eventually made a game of it in the second half after NAU pushed the lead to 52-33 on a Greg Hill free throw. The Bengals went on a 19-7 run keyed by a pair of Jesse Smith buckets and five more points from Logan Kinghorn. However, Northern Arizona answered with a 14-3 run of their own jump started by a three-point play from Cedric Hill and ended with five points in a row from Steven Sir. Idaho State would get no closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Idaho State's 68 points were the most they have scored in the past five games, and their 37.3 shooting effort also was the best during their five-game skid. The Bengals were again outrebounded, this time 40-25 on the glass, and ISU totalled just six assists on the night.

Notes: The Bengals dropped to 0-4 in the Big Sky for the first time since the 1999-2000 season ... Kyle Stevens started for the second time this season ... Arzelle Lewis is just 1-for-16 from three-point range in Big Sky Conference play after his 0-for-4 outing against Northern Arizona ... Logan Kinghorn, along with his career-high 27 points, had a career-best five steals ... NAU has won four straight against Idaho State.
