Pocatello, ID--Natalie Graham scored her second goal of the season in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome two Weber State first half goals as Idaho State dropped a 2-1 decision to its cross-state rival Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.
With the loss, Idaho State falls to 3-9-1 overall, 0-1-1 in Big Sky play. The Wildcats improve to 8-4-1 overall, 1-1-0 in league play.
"We never could get it going in the first half," said ISU head coach Mark Salisbury. "We played well in the second half and had a lot of great opportunities. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get that second goal."
Graham put the Bengals on the board in the second half at the 57:34 mark when the ball was sent into the box, knocked around a couple of times and bounced over the goalies head. Graham then found the back of the open net for the score.
The goal is Graham's sixth career goal in just her second season with ISU. Graham also led the Bengals with four shots on goal on the day.
Weber State scored two goals in the first 30 minutes of the match. The Wildcats scored first at the 21:55 mark when Ashley Wood sent a cross into box from the right side to Linsey McFarland, who found the back of the net.
Natalie Ellis put in the second Wildcat goal at the 30:15 mark. Rochelle Hoover assisted on the goal.
Esther Toronto led ISU in goal with six saves. She also helped the Idaho State defense hold Weber State scoreless in the second half with three key saves. Kandice Golar led the Wildcats in goal with five saves.
Idaho State notched 10 shots on the day, six on goal. WSU tallied 16 shots with eight on goal. The Wildcats had eight corner kicks to ISU's one.
The Bengals will now regroup and head back out on the road for a pair of Big Sky Conference matches. The team travels to Montana for an Oct. 21 matchup with the Grizzlies before heading to Eastern Washington to play the Eagles on Oct. 23.
"We're playing with a lot of young players and they are improving with every game," said Salisbury. "We lost this game and its unfortunate, but we'll continue to get better and keep at it."
ISU next returns home on Oct. 27 when the team hosts Sacramento State.
